Dave turnes 41!!

Dave turned 41 today. Where has the time gone. He can't really be that old I tell myself, but the numbers just don't lie.

We decided to go out to dinner to someplace we'd never been before. And of course when we got to where we thought the restaurant was supposed to be, it wasn't there. We were already downtown and decided to walk over to the Riverwalk and see what we could find. With two kids five years and under our choices were limited not only by the type of restaurant we went to, but how far we could walk without them whining overly much.

We ended up at the Texas Land & Cattle. It was okay. Nothing special.

The best part was just spending time with my boys.

While we were waiting for our table I let Hayden use my camera. We ended up with over a hundred pictures before the camera battery died. Below is just a sampling of Hayden's collection.

He had a real affinity for tree trunks.

He even caught the river police in action.

Easter 2011

For Easter I decided to make a red velvet cake. Yum, my favorite. And Turner decided he was going to help. Everything was going super good and I gave him the spatula to lick. I turned around to put the cake in the oven and this is what I found, Ronald McDonald had invaded my home. How that boy managed to get the batter between his eyes and all over the place, in like five seconds, is beyond me. We even dyed Easter eggs this year. Something we have not tempted in the past due to the mess potential. They came out pretty good.
The boys school had a little Easter program and the Easter bunny even made an appearance.

And what would an Easter program be without and egg hunt. The boys both did great and found way more candy then they needed.
Easter morning dawned bright and clear and the Easter bunny definitely didn't miss our house. The boys both got new Easter basket stuffed full of candy, toys and books.
And of course the Easter bunny hide a ton of eggs.
This is the first year Turner has really been into finding the eggs on his own, so Hayden had some stiff competition. He rose to the occasion though. After all the eggs where found they got to open them and find even more candy. Turner was really into the opening part.
The Easter bunny had even put in gold dollar coins in some of the eggs.

And luckily he provided brand new piggy banks to save them in.

Just because!

I got home from work today today and noboday was home. So I set about getting dinner started, when I hear the garage door open and in walk the two cutest little boys in the whole wide word each carrying a dozen roses and their incredible dad right behind them. It was so sweet to see the boys with the roses and they were so proud to give them to me, "Just because we love you , mom" they said. Made me feel super special. What a lucky girl I am!

What goes in . . .does come out!

I took this picture the other day to show how cute Turner was being. He really likes listening to music on dad's MP3 player. He was in the kitchen and I had just put the ear buds in his ears and took this picture. About two minutes later he was in the family room and I hear Dave asking him, "Turner, where are the purple covers?" To which Turner replied by pointing into his open mouth. Not thinking he would really eat them Dave asked again and again and again. All with the same response.

Well Turner wasn't lying. The next day there were two purple ear bud cushions in his diaper. Needless to say they got thrown away.

Before and After

This is the boys hair before we got their hair cut Friday evening.

BEFORE:

We had gone kind of rogue and let the boys hair grow out, just a little longer than normal.

Then we got them their summer hair cut, cause it's getting hot, and I wanted to have their Easter picture taken.

I was so pleased with their pictures I had to post them all. Well not all of them, but the best ones.

Hayden on the treadmill!

Hayden likes to sleep in bed at night with Dave and I. This is a practice that Dave and I don't particularly enjoy ourselves. Number one we spent a lot of money to buy Hayden a really nice mattress for his bed, and number two he is a very pushy little boy who likes to snuggle and neither Dave or I are snugglers (I know TMI).

Anyway Hayden usually likes to sneak into our bed at nights. Occasionally he will make it all the way under the covers, as he has become very stealth in this particular area, or it could be Dave and I are so tired from our crazy lives we don't notice. I digress, Hayden is usually really good about going back to his own room if he wakes us up while trying to slithers in or when he finally does wake us up from the snuggling we will just carry him back to his own bed.

About a week or so ago Hayden asked if he could come and sleep with us and I told him he could bring a pillow and a blanket and sleep on the floor. The next morning this is what I found:
The silly boy would rather sleep on the treadmill then on the floor. This has been his favorite spot (unless grandma and grandpa are here and he can get in with them) for about a week. I would think the floor would be more comfortable, especially since his head is at the downward end of the treadmill, but who am I too say. Hayden seems happy and he's not all over me at night so I'm happy. A win for everyone!

The little things that make me happy!!

I am an avid Amazing Race fan and watcher. I love watching this show and enjoy cheering for my favoirte teams. Last night I was so excited. Ron and Christina, a father and daughter, were eliminated from the show. Yeahhhhhh!!!! I really didn't like Ron, he was kind of a pain in the ass, very full of himself and he just wouldn't shut up. I'm so happy they are gone. It's just the little things in life that make me happy. Go Jet and Cord.

Two firsts . . .

A couple of months ago I got an email from a fellow coworker asking if I would be interested in participating in the first annual Diva Dash. I figured it was a couple of months away and it would help to keep me motivated regarding my workout routine. So I agreed and forked over my money to sign up.

A couple of months later and the time has arrived. What was I thinking? 3.1 miles (5K) with obstacles, oh man! I knew I could do the running, but I was a little concerned about the obstacles. I was quite proud of myself as this was the first race/adventure I have ever taken apart in. I was disappointed as I did have to walk some because there was this huge hill that about kicked my bum. I got all the way up the hill by picturing Hayden cheering me on, but once at the top I had to stop. The second thing that stopped me was the trampoline tubes on the water. There were five of them and you had to jump from one to the other or fall in the water. By the last one I was dying and dragged myself on barely and layed there like a dead person. And then if was off to the finish line.

This is a picture of me running to the finish line. If you could see close up you'd see my cheeks are bright red.

This is me at the end. I was to tired to suck my gut in and to lazy to photoshop it out.

Kirsten, myself, Corina and Jeanette we were quite proud of ourselves. There were actually ten people total from my office who participated and we all had a great time.

I was grateful for this opportunity and I had a great time running. I have gained a new love for running and even feel a little out of sorts when I miss my work out for more than a day or two. So this was my first race/adventure and I hope it won't be my last. A new found

As a side note I have to give a shout out to my dad. He accompanied me up to Austin for the race and had it not been for him I probably would not have made. Half way to Austin I realized I left my bag at home with my race number and change of clothes.

Additionally it took way longer to get there than I had anticipated and parking was crazy with the shuttles. There was no way I was going to make my wave start time. I was ready to get back in the car, with tears in my eyes and go home without running. But my sweet dad drove me to the drop off point at the start of the race and I made it with two minutes to spare. He then parked the car and came back to cheer me on and take pictures. What an awesome dad, I am such a lucky girl.
